INDIAN LAW STUDENTS’ ASSOCIATION (ILSA)

Indian Law Students’ Association (hereinafter referred to as “ILSA”) is a subset of the Indian Lawyers’ Association (hereinafter referred to as “ILA”). ILSA is an independent, non- profit making organization formed with an intent to bring together law students across universities in India. ILSA plans to work in close connection and under the guidance of the ILA. ILSA aims at providing its members a platform to develop their existing skills and acquire new ones, to interact with fellow students and experienced practitioners from different law colleges across India, discuss on career pathways & community outreach.

Aim & Objectives

Networking

ILSA aims to connect law students as well as lawyers across the country in the hope that this will help them learn from each other and grow on their journey to becoming better professionals.. As universities grow, on-campus opportunities are easily lost. ILSA chapters will help their students find these opportunities - research partners, team members for moots, employment opportunities, etc. - by conducting monthly campus events/meetings (eg. social events, mooting practice, other discussions). All ILSA chapters will also be required to host bi-annual or annual conferences where students from different colleges gather for research paper presentations and other events.

Professional development through educational events

ILSA chapters should conduct regular educational events like Moot Courts, Academic Conferences, Webinars, Continuing Legal Education programs and ADR Competitions amongst others. ILSA wishes to work in collaboration with ILA to provide for the required knowledge base for the operation of these events. These events will help students get exposure to different areas of law, build a peer group across law schools and provide a platform for the brightest students of the country to compete amongst each other in their areas of interests.

Be the collective voice for law students

One of the fundamental elements of being a lawyer is to be able to speak about the events happening in the world and in our own backyards. ILSA believes that by combining these voices it will be able to have a significant impact in India. Issues of mal-administration are not unheard of in Law Universities and ILSA would be a platform where students across the country can now come together as a fraternity to lend a helping hand in times of need.

Promote social responsibility amongst students

Having a voice comes with great responsibility. Lawyers are an integral part of effectuating change in any society. ILSA, through its collaboration with ILA, would be able to take on pro-bono initiatives as well as provide legal awareness.

Generate helpful databases

To make finding opportunities in the legal field easier, ILSA chapters will collectively contribute to the generation of databases containing key points of contact, new opportunities for work/study, and other information.
